LifeCo Psychology team member Andrea Edwards trained as a Counsellor in the United Kingdom and graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Counselling in June 2005. During that time, she also completed a Foundation Certificate in Youth Work. Andrea went on to gain a Post Graduate Certificate at Auckland University in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Assessment and is a qualified EMDR therapist at Masterclass Level.
Post-graduation Andrea worked in the UK for 6 years as an Addictions Counsellor with adults and young people and also ran a small private practice from her home. She has experience working with sexual abuse, family violence, grief counselling, rape, sexual health, HIV and Hep C individual counselling and group work and adults and young people affected by Cancer. Andrea has a Rogerian person-centred approach and utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness, and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).
Andrea’s Professional Registration is with the Drug and Alcohol Practitioners Association of Aotearoa New Zealand. She is ACC Sensitive Claims accredited.
